Thursday

Tomorrow's the Big Day!

We head to FaerieWorlds in the morning!

Tuesday

A Short Post From Work

I got to work a bit early and thought I'd go ahead and put in a quick lil post. I realized that there's only 3 days to go until FaerieWorlds and I'm so excited. I can't wait to see what it's like. Camping sounds like it's going to be a lot of fun since we'll be camping with 70+ other people.

I've been doing a lot of work to get ready for everything and now that we've got everything ready to wear while we're there, I just have to get everything packed to take up there. I need to go buy some black eyeliner and eyeshadow tonight, when I get home and I HAVE HAVE HAVE to pack up and what not. A friend of mine is going to take us up there and he has a truck, so it seems to me that it'll work out alright.

It's 11:56 now, so I've got to get to work. *sigh*

Friday

Finished The Cloak

It took halfway to forever, but I finally managed to finish The Boy's cloak.  The outer fabric turned out great and has an awesome color and a little shimmer.  We're both pretty satisfied with it overall, which makes me pretty happy.  We may put something on the back with a bleach pen, if we like the way it turns out, but... we'll see.

One Week

That's right, 7 days!

Wednesday

My Creations So Far

I've been working on some crafty stuff for FaerieWorlds and finished a couple of them last night. One is a brown shirt with leaves sewn around the bottom of it to give kind of an earth faerie look. The other is a pouch for the boy to carry money in that would match his cloak.

I have one more big project, which is The Boy's Cloak.  I also have to patch a pair of his hippie pants, but probably won't put the pants up.  Off to work on the cloak!

Priscilla Hernandez

Will be performing both nights.  She's an "ethereal gothic singer-songwriter, composer and fantasy illustrator" from Barcelona, Spain.  She will be performing "The Fairy" from her debut album, called Ancient Shadows, on Good Faeries Day.  This will be her first performance at an American festival, which I must admit makes me feel pretty awesome that I'll be there.

On Bad Faeries Night, she will be performing "The Ghost", also from Ancient Shadows.  I checked out her myspace and heard some great music.  You can also check some of her videos on her You Tube channel.

Priscilla's My Space.  You can find all of her sites on her myspace, about halfway down the page on the left hand side.

Probably Over-Excited

How excited I am?  What with the countdown and the performance info and all, I'm sure it's not hard to miss.  I have been working on finding a ride to and from the campgrounds up there, but have decided that if I don't find something by next weekend, I'll ask Dad if he'd be willing to take us for some gas money.  I've got a friend who's willing to take us up there, but he's not sure if he'll be able to pick us back up.  That's all for now. Going to do more looking into the bands while I try to find out what the deal is with Good Faeries Day and Bad Faeries Day.

It's a good thing that I checked the site. This whole time I've thought that the gates open at 12 noon on both days we'd be attending.  Turns out they open at 2 PM on Friday and 12 PM on Saturday.  I still think I'll try to get there Friday morning around 10 or 11 AM.

Monday

Wow...

I can't believe exactly how excited I am.  My skirt should be here soon, my earrings, anklet, and hair stick all got here today.  I've been thinking about wearing the hair pin tomorrow, just haven't decided, since I have to work.

I walked with The Boy over to Koraschenko Gifts, which is the new mystic theme shop downtown.  Apparently they're not open on Mondays for some reason, which I don't quite understand, since everything else in this town is.  I don't work tomorrow until 5 PM, so I may just try and make it there tomorrow before work.  The owner said she had ordered some incense charcoal (the stuff you burn home-made incense on) and if I'm not confused, then she should have received it today.  I can't wait till I can start working on making some incense with the herbs The Boy and I have now.

I also need to pick up an oil burner for the scented oil we bought last time we were there.

Main Stage - Day 1 Third Performance

Trillian Green is performing Friday at 6:30.  They are a trio, consisting of Christine Gunn (cello), Ben Klein (flute) and Jarrod Kaplan (percussion).  They met in 1994 and began performing at the Oregon Country Fair.

As a musician, I'm incredibly excited to see them.  I listened to some music clips that I found on the FearieWorlds site.

Sunday

Main Stage - Day 1 - Second Performance

At 4:45, following the Spiral Dance (which, by the way The Boy has already agreed to partake in) Estampie will be performing.  They are a German medieval band, known well for their skill with ancient instruments without electronic amplification.  I was able to find multiple video's of them on You Tube, and if you like this one, go ahead and click on the link and you can watch more.

Their site can be found here.  And their myspace is here.  The site is in German though (at least, I assume it's German, since they happen to be a German band), and their myspace is as well. Below are some music clips with you may also enjoy.

Saturday

Main Stage - Day 1 - First Performance

Tricky Pixie is scheduled to perform Friday at 3.  They describe themselves as "Gypsy Celtic folk rock for naughty punk faeries."  I can't say I'm very excited about them as when I tried to research them I could not find any videos of their performances.  I was able to find their myspace link

If I find anything video wise, I'll let you know, and if you know of anywhere I can find some videos of Tricky Pixie, let me know!  In the meanwhile, there's a music clip you can listen to here (their official website).

Thursday

Faerie Worlds

The Boy and I are attending FaerieWorlds the first weekend of August.  It's a three day event, however we will only be attending the first and second.  I bought a pretty green skirt and I will wear a white blouse for the first day (Good Faeries Day) and my black corset the second day (Bad Faeries Day).

I'll be paying close attention to assessing the area and atmosphere to see what they will be like, so that we can possibly bring Kiana next year.  There will be music, food and vendors, which I'm all very excited about (Especially Kan'Nal, who've I heard is an absolute treat to watch).

A couple of pictures to give you a feel of who Kan'Nal is.

I'm also excited to see contact juggling by Chris Murdoch (luminous balls... hot guy... C'MON PEOPLE, WHAT ELSE DO YA NEED?)

It will be my first time at a pagan fair, and I can't wait.  I told The Boy he doesn't have to dress up, but he wears earth tones and semi-hippie attire anyway, haha.  I'm planning on taking both my camera (what kind of person would I be if I didn't?) and a notepad so that I can tell everyone what it was like and show some pictures.  Twenty-two days to wait!

Saturday

Happy Fourth of July

My sister in law may have her issues... but hey, who doesn't?  I made this video for her since she wasn't able to come see us for the fourth.

Tuesday

Ignorance and Children

Many of you have seen the "Nasty Pagan" Kathy Lee clip.  (If not you can watch it here.  The comment is at about 4:30).  She made a blanket apology (watch it here, at about 2:20).  When I was growing up, my mother taught me and my sister both that when you make an apology, you should always tell the person what you're sorry about.  This blanket apology does not seem anywhere near sincere in the least.

But what about kids?  When your child makes a prejudiced statement what do you do? Or when they hear a derogatory statement, what do you tell them? Children can say mean things.  Not to long ago, my younger sister got into a fight at school with some girls who had called her 'nigger'.  Even though I'm against violence, I was proud of her for sticking up for both herself and other African Americans.  But like I said.  I don't condone violence in the least, so what happens if your seven year old is told that his (or her) parents are Satanists?  Make sure your little one is informed enough to know what's true and false.  This isn't to say that you have to give your five year old a talk on Christian verses pagan holidays, it means they should know enough about your family's beliefs to say "We don't believe in Satan." or something along those lines.

You should also be prepared to answer a lot of questions from your son or daughter about your beliefs.  Explain to them in simple terms what the holidays that you're celebrating with them stand for.  Just like a good Christian will teach their children that Christmas is meant to celebrate the birth of Christ, you should be ready to teach your child that Yule is meant to celebrate the days becoming longer and to honor the Triple Goddess.

One of the things I can't wait to do is teach my daughter about the Wheel of the Year and show her what the different holidays mean to both Christians and Pagans.
